How to Play Blackjack

Blackjack is a card game against the dealer. 6-deck shoe. The goal is to get a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Number cards count at face value, face cards count as 10, aces count as 1 or 11. Dealer stands on all 17s.

How to Play

  1. Place your main bet and any optional side bets.
  2. You and the dealer each receive two cards. One of the dealer's cards is face down.
  3. Choose an action: Hit (take another card), Stand (keep your hand), Double (double your bet and take exactly one more card), or Split (if you have a pair, split into two hands).
  4. After you finish, the dealer reveals their hole card and plays according to fixed rules (typically hits on 16, stands on 17).
  5. Closest to 21 without busting wins. Blackjack (ace + 10-value card) pays 3:2.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I get 21 with my first two cards?

You have blackjack and win 1.5 times your bet. The dealer must pay out your winnings immediately unless they also have blackjack, which results in a push.

Can I split my cards, and when should I do it?

Yes, you can split two cards of equal value by doubling your bet. Split pairs like 8s and Aces to improve your winning chances, but avoid splitting 10s and face cards.

What does it mean when the dealer stands on all 17s?

The dealer must stop taking cards at 17 or higher, regardless of what cards you hold. This limits the dealer's options and affects your strategy for hitting or standing.

What is a push in blackjack?

A push occurs when you and the dealer have the same hand value. Your bet is returned with no win or loss.

If I go over 21, do I lose immediately?

Yes, busting means you go over 21 and lose your bet right away. The dealer wins without playing out their hand.
