How to Play Pai Gow Poker (Face Up)

Pai Gow Poker deals seven cards to both you and the dealer. You split your cards into a five-card "high" hand and a two-card "low" hand. Both of your hands must beat both of the dealer's hands to win. In this Face Up variant, the dealer's cards are visible before you set your hands.

How to Play

  1. Place your bet. Optionally place a Fortune Bonus side bet.
  2. Seven cards are dealt to you and the dealer. The dealer's cards are face up.
  3. Arrange your cards into a five-card hand (must be the stronger hand) and a two-card hand.
  4. If both your hands beat the dealer's corresponding hands, you win 1:1 (minus 5% commission).
  5. If you win one and lose one, the hand pushes.
  6. If the dealer wins both, you lose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my high hand beats the dealer's high hand but my low hand loses?

You push (tie) on that round. Both of your hands must win against the dealer's corresponding hands to win the bet. If one hand wins and one loses, the bet results in a push and your wager gets returned.

Can I place a Fortune Bonus bet on every hand?

Yes, the Fortune Bonus side bet is optional and you can place it alongside your main bet on every round. The Fortune Bonus pays based on your five-card high hand only, regardless of whether your main bet wins or loses.

How do I arrange my seven cards into the required hand split?

You create a five-card high hand and a two-card low hand from your seven cards. The five-card hand must rank higher than your two-card hand, and both hands must follow standard poker rankings.

What is the advantage of Face Up Pai Gow Poker over regular Pai Gow Poker?

In Face Up, you see all the dealer's cards before you set your hands. This lets you make informed decisions about how to split your cards to beat the specific dealer hand you face.

What happens if I create a low hand that ranks higher than my high hand?

This is a foul hand and your bet loses immediately. Your low hand must always rank lower than your high hand according to poker hand rankings.
