How to Play

Fan Tan is one of the oldest gambling games in the world, originating in China centuries ago. The idea is beautifully simple: a random number of beads is counted out, divided into groups of four, and you bet on how many are left over - a remainder of 1, 2, 3, or 4. No special knowledge required, just pick your number and find out.

1. Choose a number from 1 to 4. This is the remainder you're betting on when the bead count is divided by four.
2. Set your bet amount and place your Fan bet on your chosen number.
3. Optionally place additional bets: Kwok covers two numbers, either paying 0.95:1; Nga Tan covers three numbers (two paying 0.475:1, one that pushes); and Nim covers two numbers where one wins at 1.9:1 and the other pushes.
4. The game calculates a random bead count and divides it by four.
5. If the remainder matches your Fan bet, you win 2.85:1 - your stake back plus 2.85 times your stake in winnings.
6. Winning Kwok bets pay 0.95:1 and Nga Tan bets pay 0.475:1. Nim pays 1.9:1 on its win number and refunds your stake on its push number.

Millionaire Mode, Win $1,000,000

Turn Millionaire Mode on and a Golden Bead can trigger the bonus. It is free to switch on; there is no extra fee per round.

While it is on, standard wins pay at 90% of the off-mode rate. That margin is what funds the jackpot shot, and a triggered Golden Bead follows its own jackpot rules.

The in-game Millionaire Mode panel shows how the Golden Bead trigger works. The $1,000,000 jackpot is pre-funded and paid in full when you win it.

Tips & Tricks

Fan Tan is a game of pure chance - all four remainder numbers have exactly equal probability, so there's no pattern or strategy that changes which number comes up. Pick whichever number feels right and enjoy the simplicity of the game.

If you want more frequent wins with smaller payouts, Kwok covers two numbers at 0.95:1 and Nga Tan covers three (two paying 0.475:1, one that pushes). These cover more of the board than a single Fan bet, a lower-variance option for players who prefer steadier returns.

Standard Fan bets return 96.25%; other bets return approximately 97.5%-98.75%. While Millionaire Mode is active, standard wins pay at 90% of the off-mode rate; that 10% margin is what funds the jackpot shot on every round.

Set a session budget and stick to flat bets throughout. Fan Tan is a rhythmic, meditative game by nature - its historical players found it calming rather than high-tension. Play it in that spirit and you'll enjoy it more than if you chase big wins aggressively.

Is It Fair?

Fan Tan is provably fair - the bead count that determines your result is generated by a sealed cryptographic process before each round. The server commits to a secret at the start of your session and you can verify it hasn't changed. After playing, the secret is revealed and you can check every round result using free online tools.

The mathematics behind Fan Tan's provably fair system is particularly transparent: a random number is generated, divided by four, and the remainder is the result. Every step of that process is auditable from the published derivation formula. Change your client seed between completed rounds; reveal the server seed to end the session.
